In order to encourage and provide a forum for scientific research especially for the young scientists and synergise new ideas with societal needs, this Department organises seven Regional Science and Technology Congresses every year jointly with different colleges/ universities of the State with the fund support from this Department. The West Bengal State Science and Technology Congress is organised departmentally. It has become the most coveted annual event for the young researchers as well as eminent Scientists and Professors of the State and at times of India too. The event had been spread to the young researchers of the farthest corner of the State through Regional and State Science & Technology Congresses.

In view of the pandemic situation during 2020-21 and 2021-22, the regional congresses were not organised and the state congress was restricted to organisation of P C Mahalanobis Smriti Baktrita.

The 30th West Bengal State Science and Technology Congress, 2022-2023 will be organised by Department of Science & Technology and Biotechnology, Government of West Bengal. Seven Regional Science & Technology Congresses across the State will be organised as a part of the programme in collaboration with i)Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University,Cooch Behar, ii) University of Gour Banga, Malda, iii) West Bengal State University, Barasat, iv) Maulana Azad College, Kolkata, v) Raja Narendra Lal Khan Women's College, Medinipur, vi)Bankura University, Bankura, vii) The University of Burdwan, Burdwan. Selected papers from these Regional Science & Technology Congresses will be presented in the West Bengal State Science & Technology Congress, 2022-2023. To encourage the young researchers, there will be Awards and Certificates both at the Regional and State levels.
