Introduction

West Bengal State Science & Technology Congress (WBSSTC)

One of the major activities/events of the Department of Science & Technology and Biotechnology, Government of West Bengal (DSTBT, GoWB) is organisation of West Bengal State Science & Technology Congress (WBSSTC), in order to provide a forum for interaction and deliberation, review of the present status of R&D efforts and to synergise Research activities for societal developments. As such it conducts annual congress on Science and Technology since 1994. The programme is inaugurated on 28th February every year where apart from researchers, students of schools and colleges also participate in a large scale. Research papers in different disciplines viz. Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, IT and its applications and Statistics, Engineering and Technology including Emerging Technologies, Earth Sciences including Geoinformatics and Hydrogeology, Botany, Zoology, Biotechnology, Medical Sciences including Forensic sciences, Environmental Sciences including Climate Change, Agricultural Sciences including Veterinary Sciences, Thematic Topic: Science and Technology for Disaster Management are presented. The prime objective is the continued advancement and improvement of technology for socio-economic growth. Selected papers from six Regional Science Congresses are presented in the State Science Congress which is generally held at the Science City, Kolkata during 29th February and 1st March every year. To encourage the young researchers, awards and certificates are given to the outstanding paper presenters both at Regional and State levels.
