West Bengal State Science & Technology Congress

To honour the contributions of India’s legendary scientists, the Science and Technology Congress hosts a series of memorial lectures :

• – Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis Smriti Baktrita, introduced in 1994, in memory of Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis (1893–1972), a great statistician, famous for developing the Mahalanobis distance and large-scale sample surveys in India ;
• – Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Memorial lecture, added in 2023, to commemorate the contributions of the great Indian scientist, Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose ( 1858 -1937), a pioneer in plant physiology and radio science ;
• – Sir Chandrashekhar Venkata Raman Memorial lecture , added in 2023, to honour Sir C. V. Raman ( 1888 - 1970), a Nobel Laureate and discoverer of the Raman Effect ;

These lectures are delivered by eminent scientists on contemporary scientific topics, explaining the insights of scientific breakthroughs and their impacts on society.
